Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Michael S. O’Neill is both a cum laude graduate of the University of Western Ontario (1975) and Dalhousie University Law School (1978). An avid hockey fan Mr. O’Neill was a former captain of the Soo Greyhounds Junior A Hockey Team, a Hockey Canada Scholarship Award recipient, and a member of the Western Mustangs Hockey Team from 1972-1975. He was called to the Bar by the Law Society of Upper Canada in April of 1980 and has been certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation consistently since 1992.
Mr. O’Neill served as an Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces, served with the Advocate General’s Office, and retired in 1999 as a Major; he remains a member of the Supplementary Reserve. A Past President of the Algoma District Law Association and former Director of the Advocates Society and the Northern School of Medicine, Mr. O’Neill has been an active member of the community throughout his career.
As a Specialist in Civil Litigation, Mr. O’Neill specializes in all forms of litigation including insurance, matrimonial, administrative, commercial, and banking law. He has appeared in all levels of Court including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has more than 50 cases reported in various legal publications, including a series of jury and non-jury hearings.
